We foster a collaborative, mission-driven culture where diverse perspectives are valued and every doula plays a meaningful role in transforming maternal health outcomes for the families who need it most.

About the Role: EmpowerMama is seeking PA Medicaid-enrolled full spectrum doulas to provide non-medical support to families throughout the perinatal and postpartum period, including labor and delivery. You will deliver home-based and community care that supports the physical, emotional, and informational needs of families from pregnancy through the early weeks of parenthood.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Birth Support: Providing continuous emotional, physical, and informational support during labor and delivery.
  • Emotional Support: Offering emotional support and reassurance to expectant and new parents, helping them navigate the challenges of pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.
  • Physical Comfort: Assisting with comfort measures during labor and physical recovery after childbirth, including providing opportunities for rest and personal care.
  • Infant Care: Demonstrating newborn care techniques, such as feeding, diapering, and soothing the baby.
  • Informational Support: Providing evidence-based information on pregnancy, birth options, infant care, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery.
  • Advocacy: Acting as an advocate for families, helping them communicate with healthcare providers and access necessary resources.
  • Household Organization: Assisting with light household duties to allow parents to focus on their recovery and bonding with the baby.
  • Sibling Support: Helping older siblings adjust to the new family dynamics and providing care if needed.
  • Referrals: Connecting parents with additional resources and support services as needed.
Qualifications:

  • Training: Completion of a full spectrum or postpartum doula training program and certification. Birth doula certification preferred. Certification in lactation or breastfeeding consultation preferred.
  • Medicaid Enrollment: Must be enrolled as a PA Medicaid provider (required).
  • Transportation: Reliable transportation required for home visits and birth support throughout service area.
  • Skills: Strong communication, empathy, and organizational skills. Cultural competency and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of pregnancy, birth, postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn health.
  • Personality: Positive attitude, compassionate, patient, and nurturing demeanor. Empathetic and non-judgmental approach to supporting families.
  • Hours: Must be able to work flexible hours, including on-call availability for births.
  • Background: Must be able to pass a background check.
  • CPR: Certification required.
